EMECHO TED |
My name is Emecho TED. For few weeks now, I have been afraid. Having said this; you might want to know why. But I tell you, even now, I am afraid to publish this post because I don't know what your reactions would be". I am afraid to
open my eyes because I don't know if our environmental issues out there have been solved. I am afraid to breathe the air because I don't know what chemicals are in it. I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone layer," I am afraid to drink water because I don't know the level of contamination. I am afraid for the WORLD, for YOU, and OUR FUTURE. I am just AFRAID. Are you not afraid that our individual and societal behaviour that impinge negatively on the environment puts all of us in risk unimaginably?
I say to you today that, "Environmental peacefulness is more important than independence” therefore being consciously environmental friendly on a daily basis makes everyday count in solving environmental problems".
Yes! Everyday counts in environmental matters because the environment is our life.
For far too long, we have let this debate enter into a political forum, as though wanting to save the environment which we all share a partisan position. This issue is not one of political affiliation, nor of race or ethnic background or age or economic status or sexual orientation or any other of a million labels we’ve been divided into. More than ever, now is not the time for division, now is the time for unity. Now is the time for the cacophony of noise emanating from concerned citizens around the globe to join into one single voice which calls out in demand for change.
I’m just an ordinary man hoping that somehow being here today and writing can somehow make tomorrow a better place for us and our generation. But it will take more than hope to right the situation we have found ourselves in. The pressure on environment continues to increase. Habitat loss and degradation from agriculture and infrastructure development, overexploitation, pollution and invasive alien species, ozone depletion, etc remain the predominant threats,"
I'm only a man amongst the over 8billion people in the world. Yet, I know we are all part of a family that shares the same air, water and soil, etc. I know we are all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal”
We must not forget that EVERYDAY COUNTS.
